Choosing the right MTB frame for your riding style
A good MTB frame is defined primarily by its geometry , travel , and materials. A full-suspension frame offers optimal comfort on descents and better control on technical sections, while a hardtail or rigid frame ensures superior performance on rolling terrain or climbs . To equip your MTB accordingly, discover our 29-inch full-suspension models .
Each practice requires a specific frame :
| Practical | Recommended frame type | Suspension |
|---|---|---|
| Cross-Country | Semi-rigid or lightweight full-suspension | 100 to 120 mm |
| Trail | Versatile Full Suspension | 120 to 140 mm |
| Enduro | Reinforced full suspension | 150 to 170 mm |
| Downhill | Specific Frame DH | 180 mm and above |
Technical compatibility and component selection
Choosing a MTB frame isn't just about its design. It's essential to check compatibility with the components: brake type (Postmount, Flatmount, IS), bottom bracket (BSA, Pressfit), headset , seatpost diameter, and the possibility of mounting a front derailleur . Our spare parts allow you to customize each frame to your exact needs.
Wheel size also affects maneuverability and stability:
- 29-inch : stability and off-road capability
- 27.5 inches : agility and responsiveness
- 26-inch (less common): compactness
Some frames allow adjustments via flip-chips or interchangeable tabs.
Proper tire clearance is crucial: Plus-Bikes or Fatbikes allow for a wider assembly for maximum grip. Check out our selection of MTB tires to complete your assembly .
