How to choose a crane or a jar for your bike?

The choice of a crane or a bike or mountain biking potency depends on several factors. For the hanger, consider the shape (plat or re-relevé), the diameter (25.4 mm, 31.8 mm or 35 mm), and the slanting to the rear (backsweep). For the potency, think about length (impact on stability and maneuverability) and angle (influence on the top position of the body). ATVs may require larger hangers for more downhill control, while narrower hangers offer better aerodynamic on the road. Shorter potency favours direct steering, while longer potency can improve stability. The adjustment must take into account your driving style and morphology.

When you are planning to buy a bike hanger, it is essential to take into account several aspects to ensure the comfort, performance and safety of your cycling experience. Here is a complete guide to help you make the right choice:

1. Understanding the dimensions of the hanger: Width, Depth and Height

  • Wax width : Measure the width of your shoulders to the bone level. The width of the hanger shall be identical to this measure, usually between 38 and 44 cm. Wider offers more stability, but in the city, a narrower hanger can be better for better handling.

  • Wax depth : The depth of the hanger must match your driving style. Deep hangers are ideal for intense and sporty practice, while less deep hangers are suitable for long distances.

  • Wax height : The height of the cinder influences the position of your bust. A high height is perfect for cyclotourism or relaxed rides in the city, while a lower height favours aerodynamic position for more sporty cyclists.

2. The different types of bike hangers

  • Multi-Position Cintre : If you are looking for a versatile handlebar, opt for a multi-position hanger such as the butterfly handlebar or the bullhorn hanger. They are suitable for most practices, except hiking excursions.

  • Cintre Droit Recourbé : Perfect for city trekking or city trekking, this type of crane favours a 90° posture, offering optimal comfort to ride in town.

  • Cintre Droit Plat : Flat-right hangers are ideal for sporting use requiring performance and power, and are usually found on mountain bikes.

  • Road hanger : Designed specifically for road bikes, this type of crane allows an aerodynamic position, ideal for race cyclists.

3. Bar ends for more comfort

  • Bar ends, or "corns", can be added to the end of your bike hanger to offer extra grips for your hands. This allows you to vary the driving positions, thus improving your comfort on the bike. Bar ends are particularly appreciated by road riders and cyclists for a more aerodynamic position.

4. Choose according to your practice

  • Your choice of wax will depend on your practice of cycling. If you ride a bike, opt for a road crane to optimize performance. For hiking and versatility, engravl wax can be an excellent choice. If you prefer a more relaxed position, the curved flat hanger is ideal, while the right flat hanger offers precise control.

5. Wax width for a mountain bike

  • If you are a mountain bike enthusiast, the width of the hanger will depend on the type of practice. For cross-country, a width between 600 and 680 mm is recommended, while for all-mountain, opt for a crane between 700 and 800 mm for more maneuverability and stability in descent. On hikes, a width of 650 to 710 mm can offer a good compromise between reactivity and stability.
