A saddle is designed to provide optimal comfort while supporting the weight of the cyclist on the ischions. The shape of the saddle should also allow a good weight distribution to avoid pain and numbness and those depending on your function.

The stools are developed according to your practice and the tilt angle of your bust. The more your position is crushed on the handlebar, the more the practices are considered sporting; a straight position corresponds to a leisurely practice.

The different saddles for bicycle

The road bike saddle is fine and light, designed for a more tilted position to maximize pedal efficiency. A mountain bike saddle is more resistant, compact and often has a central channel to relieve pressure.

The cyclotourism stools bring more comfort, they are usually equipped with foam or gel reinforcement at the ischions level. Some saddles for cycling have weather protection.

These types of saddles vary according to brands and models to adapt to different morphologies of cyclists. The shape of the saddle should also allow a good weight distribution to avoid pain and numbness.

How to choose its bike saddle?

1. Define your practice: depending on your practice (road, mountain bike, cycling...), you will have to choose a saddle that suits your position on the bike.

2. Consider its morphology: the stools are not suitable for all morphologies. It is important to consider the width of the isches to choose a saddle suitable for your anatomy.

3. Test before buying: it is recommended to test multiple models before making your final choice. You can thus realize the comfort and quality of the saddle.

4. Opt for comfort: the choice of a saddle must be based on the comfort it offers. Take into account the quality of the foam, as well as the presence of a central channel or gel reinforcement to avoid pain and numbness.

5. Be careful about dimensions: it is essential to measure the width of your isches to be sure to choose a saddle that suits your morphology. Opt for a model that fits exactly your needs to avoid pain and discomfort.

Composition of a bike saddle

1. The hull: it is the main part of the saddle, which gives it its shape and structure.

2. The foam: it covers the hull and offers amortization for more comfort.

3. The coating: it is the visible part of the saddle, in direct contact with the cyclist. It can be made of leather, synthetic or gel.

4. The rails are the two stems under the hull, which allow the saddle to be attached to the saddle rod of the bike.

5. The central channel: it is an ink or cut in the middle of the saddle, which allows to relieve the pressure on the perineum.

6. The beak: it is the front part of the saddle, which can be longer or less inclined according to the models.

7. The ischions are the bones of the basin that rest on the saddle when sitting on it. They must be well supported to avoid pain and numbness.

It is essential to take into account the width of the ischions to select its bike saddle.

Choosing the saddle of your bike is essential to ensure your comfort during your journeys. The saddle is the only part of your bike in direct contact with your body, making it a crucial element for a pleasant driving experience. Here is a guide to help you select the bike saddle that best suits your needs:

1. Define your driving style: Before choosing a saddle, determine the type of cyclist you are. Are you an urban cyclist, a cyclotourist, a mountain bike enthusiast, or a bike rider? Your driving style will influence the type of saddle you need.

2. For the urban cyclist: If you move to the city on short distances with a city bike, a Dutch bike or a VAE, prefer a flexible and wide saddle, about 230 mm wide. Also use a saddle equipped with shock absorbers (outputs) to absorb shocks and relieve your back.

3. For cycling and travel: If you plan to do cyclotourism or long hikes, choose a wide saddle with a slightly pronounced beak to avoid friction. A wide saddle offers good support and allows to change position during the journeys. The leather Brooks saddles are specially designed for cyclotourism.

4. For the mountain bike: In mountain biking, the choice of saddle will depend on the type of terrain and practice. Some stools, such as Fizik Tundra M5, offer optimal support and good pressure distribution for long hikes. Make sure the saddle matches your ATV style and your preferences.

5. For women: Women's bike stools are usually narrower and shorter than men's, because of their different anatomies. Look for a slightly wider and shorter saddle for better comfort.

6. For children: Children's stools must be adapted to their morphology. Choose a large enough saddle for good support, but not too wide to avoid discomfort of the pedal.

7. Refunded stools gel: If absolute comfort is your priority, consider a gel padded saddle. These stools distribute the pressure on the saddle to reduce fatigue and pain. Look for stools with specific patents for optimal comfort.

8. Adjustment and saddle rod: Remember to properly adjust your saddle for your morphology and driving style. A saddle rod with shock absorbers can also improve your comfort.
