Interview with Christian Piro, president of Calvisson VTT

Hello Christian, what is the club's assessment of last season which, we imagine, must have been quite complicated?

It sure is. The season has been strongly impacted by the health crisis, between canceled races and events, and national competitions shifted to the period from July to October, when it is usually the end of the season. Finally, only the Cycling School had a more or less normal year, except for the month of October. We operated with groups reduced to 6 children, which worked very well. In summary, this year has required a lot of effort from us to try to find solutions, with in the end quite a few activities, but hey... At the Calvisson club we are always looking to move forward and adapt, to the image of our DN1 team which has managed to stand out at regional and also national level.

How was the start of the school year in September?

Rather well, fortunately. After a month, we are pleased to see a slight increase in numbers, both at the level of young people with the Cycling School and at the level of adult members. Regarding the competitions, the team was still in the race this weekend with the Coupe de France with a victory in the last round in Marseille which gave us a very good 3rd place overall. We are now planning on organizing the 3Cs, a competition made up of three events combining running and mountain biking in the heart of Vaunage.

Looking forward to 2022, we already hope to be able to resume all of our activities, with the organization of our traditional events: Regional Cup, 3C, Randuro, 4X. As for Team XC, the results of this season allow us to consider some reinforcements of choice pilots that we will be happy to announce to you.

That a club goes beyond sports practice, it is also a state of mind and the pleasure of riding on new routes with mountain bikers from various backgrounds.
