Interview with Freddy Grumel, president of Lunel Vélo Passion

  • Hello, Freddy Grumel to start, can you introduce yourself for our readers?

So I live and grew up in Lunel. I am a real bike enthusiast and people recognize me as such. I started mountain biking twenty years ago and then I got on the road.
In November 2021, I was elected president of the Club Lunel Vélo Passion, which has a little more ten years of existence.

I come regularly to the outings that the club organizes each week because I think it is important to be in contact with members to get their feelings about the outings and adjust if necessary.

I am a man of the field and a man of action, in a previous experience I have already organized events such as a regional cyclocross championship in Lunel or mountain bike rides. In my first month as head of LVP, I organized the LVP Vélothon in a very short time, which was a great success.

  • Can you present your club in a few words, how it works, the activities offered, the number of members, the competitions organized by the club...?

To date, we have 67 members, 8 women and 59 men. The Club offers weekly road outings on Saturday mornings, with a starting point in front of Ambrussum College in Lunel, outings are posted on Strava where followers can register in the group that corresponds to them.

In the right season, we also regularly organize outdoor Club outings (e.g. Mont Aigoual, Mont Ventoux) or participation in the Brevets randos or cyclosportives in the region. We also organize outdoor weekends, usually in destinations with elevation.

Next, we would like to know how the last year was at your club?

This is another team that worked last year since I have only been president since November, but the members have been very motivated to participate in the weekly outings outside with a certain emulation. We also have young women who have begun to show the colors of the Club in the challenge and cyclosportive rankings of the region. However, the Club did not offer a "public" event that would allow it to be better known.

So when the President in office announced that he was retiring and that possible candidates for the succession were slow to make themselves known, I said to myself that I could not let this Club die and that he had to breathe new life.

  • How does 2022 look for the club, what are your main objectives and what do you hope for this year? What events does the clubplan to organize next?

We are currently very busy organizing our cycling tour, which we have named La Cigale by Lunel Vélo Passion in a nod to the cyclosportive of the time, and which will take place on April 24, 2022, at departure from the Halle intercommunale des Sports in Lunel, with 3 routes of 78km, 98km and 148km, refreshments and grills on arrival.

We are also organizing a mountain course in Alpe d'Huez for Pentecost, with very beautiful passes on the program.

And towards the end of the year we plan to renew charity events such as Pink October or the Vélothon.

  • Can we follow the news of the club somewhere?

We are present on Strava, but also on Facebook and Instagram.

  • What would you like to say to newsletter readers to make them want to join your club?

We are a friendly club with a good dynamic! We offer outings with different mixed groups suitable for all levels.

We also plan to open a new leisure group “Lun’Elles Vél
